Thaman has high hopes for Brindavanam

When he made his debut as an actor in Shankar's Boys little did we know that Thaman would soon enter the film music scene and how! Having cast a spell on the audiences with his scintillating tracks in Eeram, Kick (Telugu) and Mundhinam Partheney, Thaman now has a plethora of projects in his kitty, and can be undoubtedly called one of the busiest musicians in town.

He has now completed work on Prashanth's Malaiyur Mambattian, and is busy composing for the Jiiva-Tapsee starrer Vandhaan Vendraan. He has also signed up director A R Murugadoss's forthcoming production and Jai's Vaalu. Added to that, he has become a big name in Tollywood after his chartbusters in Kick. No wonder, he has now signed four more projects in Telugu including Junior NTR's Brindavanam, a Nagarjuna project and a Mahesh Babu film.

"I like this pressure at work and I'm enjoying every bit of it," begins Thaman, "It's fun to be working on so many projects at the same time. There is a lot of variety around, and I get to play with a number of tunes. And since I have a dedicated team and a good number of singer friends who are always there for me, I'm not really dependent on people outside. Things are going really smooth, and I'm really thankful to God for everything."

The young music director has high hopes for Brindavanam. "After Brindavanam, I'm sure I'll be able to set a firm foothold in Telugu," he says. As for his Tamil projects, he says he is happy with the response to the just-released Nagaram.

Talking about his forthcoming album Malaiyur Mambattian, a remake of the yesteryear superhit, Thaman pipes, "It was a great experience working for the album. I first listened to all the songs composed by Ilaiyaraaja sir in the original to get a feel of the film. I then decided to retain two songs — Kaatu Vazhi... and Chinna Ponnu... — and remixed them. I've composed four new songs for the album, of which Yetho Aaguthe...sung by Rita is my favourite."

The musician is all praises for the producer and director of the film, Thiagarajan. "As he acted in the original, he had a clear vision for the film as a director. He listened to the tracks and gave his valuable inputs for the film. All the songs have come up really well. I'm sure one of the kuthu songs in the album will rock the charts."

With so many projects on his platter, does he still regret the fact that he missed Kamal Haasan's Manmadhan Anbu? "Not at all!" says Thaman and surprises you. He concludes, "I'm sure that with good work in my current projects, even better films will come my way! The idea is not to expect anything and dedicate yourself to work. Once you do that, you'll find good films coming your way."
